History

Singer, Stoneburner, Ford, Grana & amp; Buckner is a US law firm based in Richmond, Virginia. The company has 6 lawyers, 16 employees, and was established in 2009.

The company was able to trace its roots until July 1979, when Irv Cantor and Tom Rilee, who had just completed duties with Virginia Supreme Court, started the law firm of Rilee and Cantor.

In 1981, Bruce Arkema and Steve Edmonds joined the company, and the company's name changed to Rilee, Cantor, Arkema & amp; Edmonds. Irv Cantor is responsible for litigation of personal injury law firm, dealing primarily with insurance defense work. In the mid-1980s, Mr. Cantor made the decision to deal exclusively with the plaintiff's case and stop his insurance-defense practices.

The company hired its first partner, Stanley K. Joynes, in the early 1980s. In 1987, Mr. Joynes and Rilee, Cantor, Arkema & amp; Edmonds was appointed an advisor to future prosecution in the pending Dalkon Shield bankruptcy case in US District Court for Eastern District of Virginia. Litigation Dalkon Shield lasts for several years and is a landmark case in the law of tort/mass bankruptcy.

In 1991, after the breakup of Richmond's famous law firm of Browder, Russell, some of the firm's lawyers joined Rilee, Cantor, Arkema & amp; Edmonds, and the company name changed to Rilee, Cantor, and Russell. Among the lawyers who joined the firm was Aubrey Ford, who had been head of Browder's litigation section, Russell. The firm grew to nearly 25 lawyers. However, after several years, all defense medical malpractice lawyers from Browder, Russell left the firm because of the plaintiff's personal injury practice, still headed by Mr. Cantor, continues to grow. The company later changed its name to Cantor, Arkema. Shortly thereafter, Lewis Stoneburner, a veteran trial lawyer with great experience and success in medical plaintiff malpractice cases, joined the company.

During the 90s and early 2000s, Cantor, Arkema had two distinct practice areas: business groups and plaintiff litigation suits. The plaintiff's lawsuit group included, among others, Irv Cantor, Lewis Stoneburner, Aubrey Ford, Stephanie Grana, and Elliott Buckner. The lawyers in the plaintiffs lawsuit have consistently reached the verdicts and settlements listed among the highest in Virginia and elected in leadership roles in several states and national attorney plaintiff associations, including the president of the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association, the Virginia Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates, and Metro Woman's Bar Association. Some significant cases handled by the group in the 90s included the greatest recovery ever recorded in certain jurisdictions where lawsuits were brought, including a $ 5.95 million recovery in medical malpractice cases in rural North Carolina and 4.5 million dollars recovery in the case of motor vehicles in the rural Virginia area. In the early 2000s, the group achieved many other significant results, including $ 5.6 million in motor vehicle cases, $ 5 million in industrial blasts, $ 5 million in motorcycle accidents, and 4.4 million million dollar decision in case of medical malpractice.

Lawyers are not the only member of the firm to gain national recognition. In 2008, Lori Tracoma, who has been a personal injury assistant with the company since the early 1980s, was named "National Paralegal of the Year" by the American Association for Justice at the AAJ National Conference in Philadelphia.

In 2009, the plaintiffs court lawyers decided to form their own law firm, dedicated exclusively to serious plaintiffs injury, malpractice and commercial cases. Newly organized companies named Cantor, Stoneburner, Ford, Grana & amp; Buckner, P.C.
