Academics

In his 2001 book, prosecutor and author Vincent Bugliosi criticized Boies' ability as a court lawyer, arguing that Boies "are not strong or fluent at all in making their point" in Bush v. Gore . "[A] Though he seems to have a very good grasp of the facts, he seems completely incapable of drawing a strong, unbearable conclusion from the facts that paint the opposition into a corner".

By 2017, the Boies company is reportedly directing the Black Cube private intelligence company to spy on alleged Harvey Weinstein's sexual harassment victims and to journalists investigating Weinstein's actions. For a year, Weinstein has the Black Cube and other agencies "" target, "or gather information about, dozens of individuals, and craft psychological profiles that are sometimes focused on their personal or sexual history." A few days later, The New York Times announced it had "ended its relationship" with the Boies company.

According to The Wall Street Journal , Boies negotiated Harvey Weinstein's contract without telling Director Weinstein Co. he has an investment in the film company.
