Defense Advocate is an American radio crime crime drama. It was aired on ABC from July 6, 1951, until December 30, 1952. It was also known as The Defense Rests .

The title character is Martha Ellis "Marty" Barrett, "a respected lawyer who has a reputation for integrity" and "who becomes the champion of the cause of oppressed and unjustly accused." Jud Barnes, a newspaper reporter, is Barrett's girlfriend. Ron Lackmann wrote in his book Mercedes McCambridge: A Biography and Career Record that Bryant "spends more time finishing crimes with his girlfriend... than he does in the courtroom."

Mercedes McCambridge has a leading role, and Howard Culver plays Judson Barnes. Tony Barrett described Detective Lieutenant Ed Ledis. The supporting actors in the program include Paul Fries, Bill Johnston, Kay Wiley, Harry Bartell, Dallas McKennon, Irene Tedrow, and Parley Baer. Orville Anderson is a broadcaster.
Warren Lewis is a producer, and Dwight Hauser is the director. Cameron Blake (program maker), Bill Johnston, and Joel Murcott are writers. The music is by Rex Khoury and Basil Adlam.

Defense Attorney came with an audition note, The Defense Rests , made for the proposed NBC series in April 1951.

In 1953, the trade publication Billboard was reportedly working on a television version of Defense Prosecutors . An article in the March 28, 1953 issue of the magazine, says that Don Sharpe was in New York "to begin a sales venture at his latest film, Defense Attorney, starring Mercedes McCambridge, and based on his former radio series under the name the same. "Fletcher Markle writes and directs pilot episodes. The proposed series was never developed.
Recognition
McCambridge's work on Defense Lawyers has earned him an honorary membership in the Los Angeles Women's Bar Association and the Favorite Drama Actress Award from Radio-TV Mirror magazine.
