Jenny Anne Durkan (born May 19, 1958) is an American prosecutor and politician from Seattle, Washington. He was elected Mayor of Seattle in 2017, became the first female mayor since 1920 and the second city to be successively elected mayor of LGBT.
Durkan serves as United States Attorney for the Western District of Washington, appointed by President Barack Obama, from October 2009 to September 2014.
Durkan ran for the Mayor of Seattle in the 2017 election. He took first place in a nonpartisan August primary and advanced to the November election, where he faces city planners Cary Moon. Durkan has more than 60% of the vote in the preliminary counting on the last day of the election, and The Seattle Times calls the race for Durkan, predicts that the Moon is unlikely to overcome Durkan's lead when countless ballots are added ahead of the final count on November 28, 2017.

Early life and education
Durkan grew up in Issaquah, Washington as the fourth of seven children and attended Forest Ridge School, a private Catholic school.
He graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1980. After graduating from Notre Dame, he moved to the Yupik fishing village of the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta in Alaska, where he taught English and trained a women's basketball team. Professional career
While at law school, Durkan participates in a pilot crime protection clinic, working with the public defender's office to represent individuals sued in Seattle city courts. He continued his work pro bono, until he moved to Washington, D.C. to practice law with Williams & amp; Connolly. There he conducted various civil and criminal cases, including representing journalists who inaugurated by the government.

He served on the non-profit Council of Women and Democracy Center from 2000-09, as Founding Board Member for the Seattle Police Foundation from 2002-04, and as Chairman of the Washington State Attorney Task Force on Consumer Privacy resulting in legislation becoming a national model for protection identity theft.
Working as a United States Attorney
In May 2009, President Barack Obama nominated Durkan to become US Attorney for the Western District of Washington, which includes 19 districts and is home to 4.6 million people (78% of the state population).
He was unanimously confirmed by the United States Senate on 29 September 2009 and sworn in on October 1 by US Chief Justice Robert S. Lasnik.
While the US Attorney, Durkan makes the Department of Civil Rights at the office. Mayor's Campaign
Durkan announced his candidacy for the mayor of Seattle on May 11, 2017, shortly after Mayor Ed Murray ended his reelection campaign. Candidate Survivor
In July 2017, during the mayor forum of "Candidate Survivor" hosted by The Stranger and the Washington Bus, Durkan imitate Melissa McCarthy's Saturday Night Live drama as Sean Spicer in costume, threw a mini-bottle of tequila into an all-age crowd and used the term "colored person" during a comedy drama.
