Federal courts service

On November 17, 2008, McConnell sent letters to US Senators Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse, declaring his interest to be nominated for vacancies in US District Court for the District of Rhode Island which had been made by Judge Ernest C. Torres taking senior status. After an interview in February 2009 with his two state senators, McConnell studied in April 2009 that Reed would recommend his name to the White House for nominations. President Obama officially nominated McConnell to the seat on 10 March 2010. On 17 June 2010, the US Senate Judiciary Committee recommended McConnell's 13-6 candidacy. On May 4, 2011, cloture was successfully called on his candidacy in 63-33 votes. The Senate confirmed it on that day in 50-44 votes. He received his commission on May 6, 2011.

Critics of nomination

The Washington Examiner writes McConnell's editorial criticism for making nearly $ 700,000 in campaign contributions to Democrats by him and his wife since 1993. Editorials at the Washington Examiner claim he is trying to buy federal jury through targeted contributions.
