Larry Laffer is a character and protagonist in the Leisure Suit Larry adventure game series, created by Al Lowe and Mark Crowe for Leisure Suit Larry in Land of the Lounge Lizard in 1987 and then voiced by Jan Rabson. Larry is a bald, bald bald, who follows virginity for life, suddenly becomes obsessed with sex and is now living a new, awkwardly trying and usually very unsuccessful life to seduce an attractive woman. Due to the popularity of the series in the late 1980s and early 1990s, Larry was one of the most famous characters during that era.

Appearance

Behind him, Larry Laffer has been a nerd all his life and eventually became a computer programmer. She has never had a close relationship with her friends, women, or colleagues, and every day of her life is identical when she lives with her mother. Around his 38th birthday, his brain was exposed to a sexual alarm and began to have his first curling mind; he started reading adult magazines and could not concentrate on his work. Because this life was destroyed; he was fired from his job, and after returning home he found his house had been sold and his mother had gone for a holiday. Larry then decided to turn one page ahead of his life; he abandoned everything and decided to live a wild life. She moved to the city of Lost Wages, where, assuming that the 1970s style is still trendy, she buys polyester casual clothes. He then sold his Volkswagen Bug to the junk for $ 94 and ended up in front of Lefty's Bar, where the first game, Leisure Suit Larry in Land of the Lounge Lizard, begins.

During the series of games, Larry lost her virginity, married twice (and discarded twice), became the hero of tropical island Nontoonyt at Leisure Suit Larry Goes Looking for Love (in some wrong places) i>, and finally, at Leisure Suit Larry III: Passionate Patti in Pursuit of the Pulsating Pectorals , meets her semi-semi, a beautiful woman known as Passionate Patti (who, for some parts of this game as well as from Leisure Suit Larry 5: Passionate Patti Does a Little Undercover Work , controlled by the player). However, in his newer game, Patti is absent and Larry roams alone again. Official Book of Leisure Suit Larry , written between Leisure Suit Larry 6: Shape Up or Slip Out! and Leisure Suit Larry: Love for Sail !, hinted that Larry was still engaged to Patti during that period, but Al Lowe said in 1999, "I doubt Patti will again haunt Larry again. " Outside of his adventure game series, appear in Sierra Loyer Book of Games, Volume I, The Laffer Utilities Larry Pops Up! , Leisure Suit Larry's Casino, Leisure Suit Larry's Sexy Pinball , Uniform Leisure Larry Bikini Beach Volley , mobile game version Love for Sail, and Larry Casino online casino.

Concepts and design

Regarding Larry's male chauvinism, his designer Al Lowe says that Larry is meant to be a satire of that type of man, not support for him. Lowe said he was looking for an unusual adventure game protagonist who could be the "butt of all the jokes" in a game that would not save the world or save the princess, but would rather deal with adult themes using humor. She remembered: "I tried to make it the opposite of the GQ model: short, overweight, bald, with hair combs, etc. Larry is not fit, loses hair, is not very successful with women, sex - in other words, he's just like most men. (...) The hard part is making Larry likeable, because at first sight, he comes as a harassed, sexist, and disliked trying to make Larry look like most men I know: both fools and geniuses, are basically honest and good, with a desire for more sex than they actually get.The man deals with Lany because no matter how big your loser is, you are not as bad as Larry ! "

In Lowe's words, Larry "imitates a salesman for the low-key, Sierra On-Line gaming company who will remain anonymous and returns from a sales trip and brags to us about how many donkeys he gets, hates him." Leisure Suit Larry at Land of the Lounge Lizards , Sierra On-Line staff must decide on the character's name. They agreed that he should be named after a certain Jerry (Lowe never made his last name publicly known), who had visited him at work and became famous in the Sierra studio. Jerry thinks of himself as a great lover and a well-known point of reference among staff, so game makers agree that because Jerry's character matches the game's protagonists, they should joke to pay homage to him. However, because they thought it was immoral to use someone's full name as a funny reference, "Jerry" was later changed to "Larry", a similar name, in honor of injured lawyer Larry H. Parker, a childhood friend of Lowe. Lowe must find a new surname, and remember the many words of the title L, browse the volume 'L' from the encyclopedia to find a suitable word or name. He fell at the entrance of Arthur Laffer, and the name caught his attention because of his phonetic resemblance to 'laughter'. Arthur Laffer for years did not know about the existence of the game until much later when Lowe sent a letter requesting his permission to publish a program under the title Laffer Utilities, a Larry spinoff that could potentially confuse the public because of the ambiguous title. Laffer asked his secretary if he knew about the game and he told him that he had played it for years, but never made the connection. Laffer gave permission and also visited the Sierra studio.

One of Larry's trademarks is the way he introduces himself: "Hi, my name is Larry; Larry Laffer", a reference to James Bond's introductory style, "My name is Bond; James Bond". The "Fun" part comes from Al Lowe's statement to the founder of Sierra Ken Williams that his predecessor Softporn Adventure series is so dated that it should wear casual clothes. The rest of her performances included "Hawaiian shirts, gold medals, and wigs on the chest because [Lowe] wants him to be that way possible." Originally, Larry was a typical 16-color sprite, although on the box's cover he was seen as a cartoon with a large triangular head and nose. Lowe says about Larry's nose: "When we started, [Sierra artist] Mark Crowe gave me a choice: Larry could have a big nose or not a nose because with only 160 pixels horizontally, his 'pixel nose' could be alive or dead Then, when graphics evolve, Larry's appearance becomes smoother, but always matches the picture of the loser. "As technology progresses to allow for more cartoon-like graphics, the VGA game updates the sprite to resemble Larry's portrayal on the cover. In the last game with a full soundtrack, Larry is voiced by actor Jan Rabson in all games except for Leisure Suit Larry: Box Office Bust , where he is voiced by Jeffrey Tambor. Lowe managed to fund the effort to fund the game through Kickstarter.

Reception

According to Zero in 1992 Larry Laffer has been "a favorite among PC users for years" and GameSpot then remembers how Larry's personality defects helped "turn an unflattering antihero into a cash cow" to Sierra On - Lines of the moment. In 1995, Next Generation stated that "Many believe that Larry (Leisure Suit and all) is the most playable computer game character, thanks to the early introduction of the game, its many sequels, and the fine of ancient piracy. "Lowe said" Sierra surveyed Larry players and found that they fit perfectly with the game population in general, with one exception: The higher proportion is women! My theory is that women relate to Larry because at least once they've all dated a jerk like him. "

The German PC Games magazine ranked Larry sixth on the 2002 list of the best game characters of all time, because "nothing failed as cute as Al Real's famous adventure hero." Retro Gamer put her in the top 50 game heroes list in 2004, noting that "after a few episodes, Larry is still bald and unfortunate as ever, but he will never stop at his endless quest for lurves. "She was voted the 45th all-time video game character in the 2011 online poll on the Guinness World Records Gamer website .
