Careers

LaHood ran for District Attorney in 2010 but lost narrowly to Susan Reed. Controversies that contribute to his loss include his age, drug arrests in the past, and firearms allegations. After the election, LaHood has decided to run again in 2014. In the Democratic Parliament 2014 for District Prosecutors, LaHood faces against Therese Huntzinger. LaHood almost defeated his opponent: LaHood received 20,413 votes, just 47 more than Huntzinger's 20,366 votes. In the 2014 Election for District Attorney, LaHood defeated Susan Reed, a petahana. LaHood was inaugurated as the new DA on January 1, 2015.

In 2017, District Judge Lori Valenzuela testified that LaHood had threatened the careers of two defense lawyers if they filed an affair between the prosecutor in his office and the key witness for prosecution in the murder case. Judge Valenzuela, who led the case, testified under oath that he had witnessed threats made in his rooms. LaHood also testified, denying that he had made a threat.

LaHood has promoted unfounded conspiracy theories that vaccines are associated with autism; in a statement videotaped in his office for the Vaxxed anti-vaccine film Lahood asserts that the vaccine "can and causes autism," LaHood repeated this claim in testimony to the Texas House committee. LaHood also stated that Islam is a religion of "terrible violence".

On March 6, 2018, LaHood lost primary Democrats to district attorney to Joe Gonzales, a more progressive Democrat, in a landslide.
