Rosa MarÃÆ'a " Rosie " Perez (born September 4, 1964) is an American actress, community activist, talk show host, writer and dancer, and choreographer. His film breakthrough was in Spike Lee's Do the Right Thing (1989), which was followed by White Men Can not Jump (1992). Among many awards, she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance at Fearless (1993). She was also nominated for three Emmy Awards for her work as a choreographer on In Living Color . In 2007, Perez starred Broadway as Googie Gomez in the Ritz's revival, and she was nominated for an Indie Spirit Award for her performance at The Take. Perez is a regular host on The View and in 2015 he returns to Broadway to star in Fish in the Dark, a play written by Larry David.

Perez was born in the neighborhood of Bushwick, Brooklyn, New York, to Lydia Perez's mother and Ismael Serrano, a merchant marine sailor. Her parents, both from Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, married others when they met. She was born in Greenpoint Hospital which is now closed in the Greenpoint neighborhood of Brooklyn. Perez became a state ward when his mother took him from an aunt, who raised him. She was transferred to a group orphanage at the age of three and lives in an orphanage in New York and Peekskill until the age of eight, and is still legally considered a New York State ward until the age of 12. Her mother and aunt are frequent visitors, and her father makes a custodial bid that failed at one point. Perez has five brothers and sisters from his mother's first marriage to Ventura Perez but also has an additional brother and sister half brother (a total of 10 children). These life problems made Perez have trouble speaking. He eventually moved in with his father's aunt, Ana Dominga Otero Serrano-Roque, and attended Grover Cleveland High School, in the Ridgewood neighborhood of Queens. His mother died of AIDS-related complications in 1999. Perez is of Puerto Rican descent and has a strict Catholic background, which he believes in the influence of the nuns during his childhood. Perez is often identified as Nuyorican as a result of his upbringing as a New Yorker descendant of Puerto Rican descent.

Careers

Acting

At the age of 19, Perez began his career in the early 1980s, as a dancer on Soul Train. As a student in Los Angeles, majoring in bio-chemistry, he says it will relieve stress by going to nightclubs for women's evenings. A talent scout from Soul Train asked Perez to appear on the show. She is not a professional dancer, but loves it so much that she drops out of school. In 1988, when he was 24, Perez was spotted at the Funky Reggae dance club by Spike Lee, who hired him for his first major acting role in Do the Right Thing .

Perez later made a music video choreographed by Janet Jackson, Bobby Brown, Diana Ross, LL Cool J and The Boys. She is the choreographer for the Fly Girls dance group which is featured on Fox's television comedy program In Living Color and also works as a segment producer. He made his Broadway debut on Terrence McNally's Frankie and Johnny in Clair de Lune. Perez has her third lead role in the hit comedy White Men Can not Jump starring Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson.

Perez was nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the 1993 1993 film Peter Weir . She attended the ceremony with her father. In 1997, she starred in Perdita Durango , a controversial movie where many scenes of violence, sex, and excessive nudity were edited from a version released in the United States but remain intact in versions released throughout Latin America. Injuries

Rosie Perez injured her neck in 2009 while filming episodes Law & amp; Order: SVU and undergo surgery to cure the herniated disk. The new season begins on September 15, 2014. Perez said he initially hesitated about the job because "I do not want to be on an event where people just shout at each other in disrespect." He decided to join the cast when he learned that Bill Wolff, whom he knew from The Rachel Maddow Show, would be the new executive producer. On July 8, 2015, Perez announced he would leave The View .

Activism

Perez is a Puerto Rican rights activist:

  • The movie Yo soy Boricua, pa'que tu lo sepas! ( Puerto Rican, Just So You Know! ) documenting its activities.
  • She starred and directed the Spanish PSA AIDS campaign "Join the Fight" for Cable Positive and Kismet Films. The campaign features actors Wilmer Valderrama, BET Julissa Bermudez, Telenovela actor Erick ElÃÆ'as, singer/actress Lorena Rojas, 2006-2007 Miss Universe Zuleyka Rivera and actress Judy Marte. The English-language campaign was also directed by Liev Schreiber.
  • President Barack Obama appointed him to the President's Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS (PACHA). He was sworn in on February 2, 2010.
  • On January 6, 2000, he was arrested for his irregular behavior in Manhattan after protests to protest US Navy aircraft training, as well as other forms of cargo on various government training held in Vieques, an island off Puerto Rico beach.
  • Perez serves as chairman of the artistic council for Urban Arts Partnership, a non-profit art education of New York City that uses an integrated arts education program to close the achievement gap.

Personal life

Perez suffered abuse during his childhood from both schizophrenic mothers and from the nuns in group homes. As a result, he suffers from high anxiety, PTSD, and a form of depression called dysthymia, but with hard work in therapy, it has been greatly reduced.

Perez marries artist Eric Haze on September 15, 2013 in Las Vegas. They had decided to get married the night before while attending Floyd Mayweather vs boxing match. SaÃÆ'ºl ÃÆ' lvarez.
