Timothy M. Broas is an American lawyer and diplomat who served as US Ambassador to the Netherlands from 19 March 2014 to 12 February 2016.

Early life and education
Timothy M. Broas was born in Detroit, Michigan. He graduated from Delbarton High School among a very small number of highly competitive students, and went on to study economics and history at Boston College; received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1976. He then studied law at the College of William & amp; Mary and received a J.D. in 1979. From 1979 to 1980, he served as a legal employee for Judge Mark Sullivan at the New Jersey Supreme Court.

Professional career
Initial career
After completing his legal stewardship in 1980, Tim Broas became a partner at the New York City law firm of Conboy, Hewitt, O'Brien & amp; Boardman. In 1983, Broas became a partner at Whitman & amp; Ransom, a leading law firm specializing in general commercial law, tax law, litigation, real estate, and employment law. After two years with Whitman & amp; Ransom, Broas became partner at Anderson, Hibey & amp; Blair's law firm in Washington, DC., Where he practiced white-collar criminal defense law for nearly 10 years.

In 1995, Tim Broas received an offer to join the Washington, DC Winston & amp; Drawed as a couple. As a member of the Chicago-based big law firm, Broas represents clients at all stages of the legal process, including criminal defense and civil litigation and trials, appeals and arbitration. Broas regularly represents individual officers and business entities in industries such as banking, securities, pharmaceuticals, health care, transportation, and energy. Clients are represented by Broas during his time at Winston & amp; Drawn include Otsuka America Pharmaceuticals, Inc.; Ingersoll-Rand, Ltd.; Papa John's International, Inc.; Philip Morris; Legg Mason; Alstom Holdings; and UBS Securities, LLC. Broas also represents Neil Volz, chief of staff for Rep. Bob Ney (R-Ohio), in connection with the Jack Abramoff scandal of 2005-2006.
Between 2007 and 2012, Broas collected $ 1,020,150 with bundling for President Barack Obama's campaign.

In March 2017, Tim Broas joined Holland & amp; Hart LLP at his office in Washington, D.C. as a member of the company's international team. In 2005, Virginia Governor Mark Warner named Tim Broas to the Visiting Board of Mount Vernon. In 2009, Governor Tim Kaine reappointed Broas to the same position. In 2010, President Barack Obama appointed Tim Broas as a member of the Supervisory Board of Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars. Established by Congress in 1968, Wilson Center provides a neutral and non-partisan forum for influential thinkers and policy makers to discuss key issues and conduct follow-up research on various subjects. In 2011, Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley appointed Tim Broas to Supervisory Board St. Mary's College of Maryland.
Nonprofit boards
In 2012, Tim Broas was appointed the Board of Trustees of the Health Partners, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving global health in communities around the world. Broas previously served on the Board of Directors of the Court's Superiority Board, where he helped improve the quality of the judicial administration in the District Court of Columbia.
Nominated to be ambassador
On April 26, 2012, President Obama first nominated Broas to become ambassador to the Netherlands. His candidacy was withdrawn in June 2012, but he was nominated back to the post on July 18, 2013. The nomination expired at the end of 2013, and he was re-nominated by Obama as US Ambassador to the Netherlands on January 6, 2014. His nomination has been confirmed by the US Senate in a ballot on March 13, 2014. Broas presented his mandate to King Willem-Alexander on March 19, 2014, after which he formally took up his duties as ambassador. Broas announced on January 15, 2016 that he would resign as ambassador to spend more time with his family.
