The United States District Court for the Eastern District of California (in the case excerpt, ED Cal. ) is a federal court at the Ninth Circuit (except for patent claims and claims against the US government under Tucker Act, who appealed to the Federal Circuit).
The district was formed on March 18, 1966 with the division of North and South districts, leading to the establishment of the Central and Eastern districts.
The United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of California represents the United States in civil and criminal proceedings in court. Since December 29, 2017, the current United States lawyer is McGregor W. Scott.

Organization court
The United States District Court for the Eastern District of California is one of four federal district courts in California. The District Court for the District was held at the Robert E. Coyle US Courthouse in Fresno and Robert T. Matsui US Courthouse in Sacramento.
Fresno Division consists of the following countries: Calaveras, Fresno, Inyo, Kern, Kings, Madera, Mariposa, Merced, Stanislaus, Tulare, and Tuolumne.
Sacramento The division consists of the following countries: Alpine, Amador, Butte, Colusa, El Dorado, Glenn, Lassen, Modoc, Sacramento, San Joaquin, Shasta, Sierra, Siskiyou, Solano, Sutter, Tehama, Trinity, Yolo, and Yuba.
Bakersfield The Office heard minor offenses and minor criminal offenses in federal and national parks in Inyo and Kern districts. The trial was held at Bakersfield, Edwards Air Force Base, and Ridgecrest.
Redding The Office heard minor offenses and minor criminal offenses in federal and national parks in Northern California. The trial was held at the Depot Sierra Army, Redding, and Susanville.
Yosemite The Office heard minor offenses and minor criminal offenses in Yosemite National Park. National parks are under federal jurisdiction. The large crowd of tourists in Yosemite creates a unique situation that justifies the presence of the courthouse inside the park itself.

Chief Justice
The Chief Judge has administrative responsibility for their district court. Unlike the Supreme Court, in which one justice is specifically nominated for head, the office of the chief judge revolves among district court judges. To be a chief, a judge must have been active in court for at least a year, under 65, and has never served as a chief judge. Vacancies are filled by the highest judges in seniority among eligible judges. The presiding judge shall be valid for a period of seven years or until the age of 70, whichever occurs first. Age restrictions are waived if no court member will qualify for that position.
When the office was founded in 1948, the chief judge was the longest serving judge who did not choose to retire on what has been known since 1958 as a senior status or refused to serve as a chief judge. After 6 August 1959, the judge could not become or remain head after the age of 70 years. Current rules have been in operation since October 1, 1982.
