The Denver District Attorney's Office is responsible for prosecuting state criminal offenses in the Second Judicial District. Colorado has 64 districts in 22 state district courts. Mission statement
The mission of the Denver District Prosecutor's Office is to professionally and wholly prosecute crimes and investigate potential crimes on behalf of the people of the State of Colorado and thus, do justice, advocate for the rights of victims and advise and consult in the prevention and prevention of crime; to ensure an open, just, and humane judicial administration.
History
Denver was originally a town inside Arapahoe County until 1902 when the Homerule Amendment was passed by voters. The amendment to the Colorado State Constitution, located on Section XX, grants limited state power to include certain Colorado cities, allowing the creation of the City and County of Denver with its own separate judicial district.
The Denver District Prosecutor's Office has a multilevel history. One of the first District Attorneys in Denver, Isaac Stevens, made a name for himself when he succeeded in prosecuting Dr. Thatcher Graves for poisoning a patient who visits Denver. He fell ill and later died after taking the medicine the doctor sent him. Stevens then became editor and manager of Colorado Springs Gazette in 1899, and finally a writer. His works include: The Liberators: A Story of Future American Politics (1908), An American Suffragette (1911) and What is Love? (1918).
Robert Wilbur Steele, a family member of the Colorado family of pioneers, served as District Attorney from 1892 to 1894. Steele went on to a judicial career both as a Denver District Court judge as well as a presiding judge of the Second Judicial District. He founded Juvenile Field Day in court, and his successor, Judge Ben B. Lindsey was known as the father of the juvenile court system, and called Steele an inspiration. Steele was later appointed Supreme Court Justice of the Colorado Supreme Court.
Greeley Whitford, after serving as Denver District Attorney from 1895 to 1896, was appointed United States Attorney for Colorado by President William McKinley.
Ben Lindsley, Denver District Attorney from 1901 to 1904, had a small history footnote based on a plan he submitted to the Denver Chief of Police to free Denver from Bat Masterson, the one-time Sheriff from Arapahoe County, Colorado, after Masterson went into a drunken spree shoot. Masterson then moved to New York City where he gained fame as a boxing promoter and novel star store about western lawyers.
John Rush served as Denver District Attorney from 1913 to 1916, following his legislative services as a state senator. While serving as a senator, Rush helped pass the 1901 Homerule Amendment, an amendment to the Colorado State Constitution, sometimes referred to as the "Rush Amendment" for his significant support.
Philip S. Van Cise was elected for a term in 1921. Known as "Colonel," he used military tactics to drop gangster Lou Blonger, "The Fixer", and "Million Dollar Bunco Ring". Van Cise also took Ku Klux Klan while members of the Clan included the Mayor of Denver and the Governor of Colorado. Van Cise admits a number of high-level criminals and uncovered the Clan's stomach that helped loosen the clutches of clan on political power but the battle did not come cheap. Van Cise's political career was short - he only served one time - and, his struggle almost sacrificed his life; he survived twice in his life. The Van Cise's book Fighting the Underworld was reported to be used as the source material for The Sting movie.
John A. Carroll was elected as Denver District Attorney in 1936 and underwent a period of four years. He was later appointed a US Attorney for Colorado and served on the United States and United States Senate Representative Council for Colorado.
Denver District Attorney Mike McKevitt, who earned a reputation as a hippie claimant in the 1960s, was elected to the United States House of Representatives in 1970 but was defeated after a period. He later became an assistant US attorney, the Legislation Office, in 1973, and advisor to the Office of Energy Policy at the White House from 1973 to 1974.
United Airlines Flight 629
Perhaps the most famous case handled by the office is one of the first aircraft bombing cases in US history. In 1955 United Airlines Flight 629 was detonated by a dynamite bomb placed in checked luggage. Denver District Lawyer Bert Keating charged the citizen of Denver, John Gilbert Graham, with one count of first-degree murder of his mother's death, Daisie Eldora King, 53, who was on the plane. Graham is the beneficiary of his wish and life insurance. Keating personally handled the prosecution and managed to gain recognition, conviction and ultimately the death penalty for the defendant.

The Denver District Procuratorate currently employs 75 lawyers and about 125 support staff. Offices are divided into different divisions and special programs:
- The County Court Division : handles over 17,000 cases per year. The main case burdens are alcohol-related traffic violations, third-level incidents of attacks, and cases of domestic violence.

Justice Review Project
In 2010, the Colorado Attorney General's Office partnered with the Denver District Attorney's Office in establishing the Justice Review Project, an ongoing federally funded effort to review post-punishment cases of forced rape, assassinations and killings for determining whether biological evidence might be possible, through DNA analysis, shows actual innocence. Although no exceptions are generated from the review of more than 5,000 eligible cases, much has been learned about retrospective analysis of cases throughout the course of the project. The lessons learned are in turn applied to create a more efficient system for post-faith assessment, including finding and determining conditions of evidence in cases from the outset, not holding the defendants accountable for the actions of their trial lawyers, and instituting an initiated defendant. application process. DNA Theft Project

Cold Case Project
In 2005, the Denver Police Department's Crime Laboratory and the Denver District Attorney's Office were selected by the National Institute of Justice as one of five sites to study the impact of DNA technology and the CODIS database on high-volume crimes. To date, Denver leads all sites in terms of CODIS clicks and case filings to the DA's Office. By the end of 2011, Denver has reviewed more than 4,500 cases of unlawful sexual harassment and murder that qualify as no suspect cases. More than 1,300 of these cases have possible biological evidence and have been sent to the DPD Crime Laboratory for the past eight years.
