Jay Alan Sekulow (born June 10, 1956) is an American lawyer who serves as Chief Adviser at the American Center for Law & Justice (ACLJ). He also hosts talk shows that air on radio and television. Sekulow is often a guest commentator on the Christian Broadcasting Network and Fox News Channel. A self-described Jewish Messiah, Sekulow built the kingdom of law and media over a period of thirty years by representing conservative, religious, and life groups.

Sekulow is on the personal legal team of President Donald Trump, who advises the president in connection with a possible investigation of collusion between members of the 2016 Trump campaign and the Russian government.

Early life and education

Jay Alan Sekulow was born in Brooklyn, New York, Natalie's son (nÃÆ' Â © e Wortman) and Stanley Sekulow. Sekulow graduated from Lakeside High School in Atlanta, Georgia, and earned a B.A. and J.D. from Mercer University. While attending the Atlanta Baptist College (now the Atlanta Mercer University campus), Sekulow became interested in Christianity and repented after meeting Jews for Jesus. Sekulow holds a Ph.D. from Regent University in 2005, wrote his dissertation on the influence of religion on Supreme Court Justices and their opinions.

Careers

As a young lawyer, Sekulow works in the Office of Chief Advisor for the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) as a tax court attorney, defending lawsuits at the United States Tax Court on behalf of the US Treasury. He formed a private practice with Stuart J. Roth who was initially successful, but was destroyed after the IRS regulations changed in the 1980s. Sekulow filed for bankruptcy in 1987 stating $ 13,071,748 in debt and $ 638,000 in assets. In 1992, Sekulow became director of the ACLJ, where he served as Chief Advisor.

In addition to his duties as Chief Counsel for ACLJ, Sekulow hosts Jay Sekulow Live! , a daily syndicated radio program broadcast on terrestrial radio, and XM and Sirius satellite radio. This direct call program focuses on legal and legislative topics. Sekulow is the host of ACLJ This Week, a weekly television news broadcast on Trinity Broadcasting Network and Daystar.

Sekulow is considered by some in Washington as one of the "Four Horsemen" who "engineered" the nomination of Chief Justice John G. Roberts to the Supreme Court. In 2007, Sekulow supported President Mitt Romney's campaign. He opposed the construction of Park51, an Islamic center in Lower Manhattan two blocks from the World Trade Center.

Personal life

Sekulow and his wife, Pamela (McPherson), have been married since 1978, and have two adult sons, Jordan and Logan, all living in Brentwood, TN. Jordan Sekulow is a lawyer with ACLJ and the Director of International Operations. He also co-hosted radio and television programs with his father. Logan briefly starred in the Nickelodeon U-Pick Live series in 2005. Sekulow grew up Jewish. He converted to Christianity in college and is now Jewish Messiah. His youngest brother Scott is the founder and Rabbi of the Messianic Congregation of the Beth Adonai Jews in Atlanta, Georgia. Sekulow also serves as a member of the Supervisory Board for the Historical Society of the Supreme Court in Washington, DC.

Sekulow is a musician and leads "Jay Sekulow Band"; he plays drums and guitars.

Cases before the Supreme Court

Sekulow argued before the United States Supreme Court 12 times during his career. He specializes in debating the key issues of the First Amendment. Sekulow recently argued before the Supreme Court on November 12, 2008 in Pleasant Grove City v Summum, case No. 07-665. Sekulow represents the city in this case regarding the government's control over monuments and warnings in public places belonging to the government, which ended in February next with a court ruling supporting the city. On March 2, 2009, the Supreme Court issued a summary disposition in the case of the Summum v Duchesne City companion. The court vacated the opinion of the Tenth Circuit and raised the case for opinions consistent with Pleasant Grove City v Summum.

In addition to his work as Supreme Court advocate, Sekulow, as ACLJ's main advisor, has submitted several amicus briefs to support conservative issues. He has submitted the writing of amicus in important cases such as Hamdi v. Rumsfeld, Apostle v. Bush, Gonzales v. Planned Parenthood, and Hein v. Freedom from Religion Foundation. Amicus briefs for Van Orden v. Perry and Wisconsin Right to Life v. FEC is quoted by Judges John Paul Stevens and John Roberts respectively. Sekulow served as an advisor to Robert and Mary Schindler during the controversy surrounding their daughter, Terri Schiavo. While he is widely recognized as a member of the Christian Right, Sekulow in the circular amicus in Morse v.
