The United States Attorney for the District of Columbia is the US Attorney who is responsible for representing the federal government in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia. Unlike other cities, Washington, D.C. is under the exclusive jurisdiction of the US Congress. By law, the US Attorney is responsible for prosecuting federal crime and all serious crimes committed by adults in the District of Columbia. Therefore, the US Attorney for the District of Columbia serves both as a federal prosecutor (as in the other 92 US Attorneys' offices) and as the local district attorney. The District Attorney General, elected by people from the District, handles local civil litigation and minor offenses.

The current US District Attorney for the District of Columbia is Jessie K. Liu, nominated by President Trump and confirmed by the Senate in September 2017. Liu replaces US Temporary Channing D. Phillips.
