Larry McNabney (19 December 1948 - 12 September 2001) is a Sacramento, California lawyer whose corpse was found buried in a vineyard on March 5, 2002. The case made national headlines when the police learned that Wife, Elisa McNabney , actually Laren Sims who had served in Florida prison for fraud and identity theft. After the national hunt, Elisa was arrested in Florida and dragged for first degree murder. However, before Elisha could be tried, he hung himself in a jail cell. Elisa's friend, Sarah Dutra, was later convicted of voluntary murder and was sentenced to 11 years in prison for killing Larry McNabney.
Elisa McNabney (January 3, 1967 - March 31, 2002) was born Laren Renee Sims to the parents of Jesse and Jackie Sims in Brooksville, Florida. Laren is a cheerleader and an excellent student at Hernando High School; he has an IQ of 140. Despite his intelligence, he dropped out of school, had two children with two different fathers, and started stealing. Laren was arrested for stealing L'Oreal hair color from Woolworth's in Tampa, Florida. After being released on the charge, he violated his probation by illegally using a credit card. He cut off his ankle monitor and headed to Las Vegas, Nevada with his daughter, Haylei.

Elisa Redelsperger met Larry McNabney in 1995 when he applied for a job at the Las Vegas law office. He works as his office manager and completes many cases. However, in late 1995, Larry's firm was investigated by the Nevada State Bar, which stipulated that Elisa embezzled more than $ 74,000 from clients. Larry closed his offices in Reno and Las Vegas in Nevada and transferred his training to Sacramento, California. Nevertheless, Elisha became McNabney's fifth wife in 1996.
Murder
On September 10, 2001, following a horse show, Elisa McNabney and her co-worker and friend Sarah Dutra, with whom she worked in the law office, injected Larry with a horse acepromazine sedative at a Los Angeles hotel. McNabney, 53, was last seen life driven in a wheelchair by Sims at the Los Angeles racetrack on September 10. A day later, authorities said Elisha (or Sims) began cleaning up her office and selling trailers and horse trucks for $ 110,000. According to his later confession, Elisha went to Yosemite National Park to bury Larry, but he was alive and he returned with unconscious Larry McNabney in the back seat to Sacramento. After his death the next day, September 12, from receiving an initial transient injection along with the next number of doses of tranquilizers and mouth drops, it was estimated by forensic examiners that Elisha and Sarah may have kept McNabney's body in the refrigerator in Garage McNabney for months. His body was then moved to a nearby winery where it was eventually discovered by the Sacramento Police detective in a shallow ditch near Sacramento on February 5, 2002. But by that time, Elisa liquidated the couple's assets, totaling more than $ 500,000, and disappeared.
Manhunt
After Larry's body discovery, Elisa was the subject of a national hunt. He goes with the alias Shane Ivaroni and hides in Destin, Florida. On March 20, 2002, Elisa was staying at her friend Haylei's house in Fort Walton Beach when she gave herself up.
Confession
He was booked into Hernando County Prison and will be extradited to California. While awaiting extradition, Elisa gave full recognition to law enforcement while in custody in Okaloosa County, Florida Sheriff Department. One week later, on Easter Sunday 2002, Elisa hangs herself in a jail cell.
Sarah Dutra's Trial
Sarah Dutra was tried for the murder of Larry McNabney in 2003. She faces a life sentence imprisonment without conditional release if it is proven to commit first-degree murder, but she is even found guilty of voluntarily murdering and murdering accessories. He was sentenced to a maximum of 11 years, 8 months imprisonment..
Aftermath
In Elisa McNabney's suicide note, she asked her lawyer to sue County Hernando County for not preventing suicide. He also requested that his children receive the funds arising from the lawsuit. "This is all I can give to my children... My actions will now allow them to move into the future without this heavy burden.You do not have to watch my trial in Court TV.These must all die with me," he writes. in the note. He also claimed that he had not been regularly checked in his cell, but investigations have since denied the allegations.
Sarah Dutra was released from Central California Women's Facility on August 26, 2011, after serving her eighty-five percent sentence for eleven years.
This case is the foundation for the TV movie made Lies My Mother Told Me which was premiered in Lifetime in 2005. The film stars Joely Richardson as Elisa, Kailin See as Sarah, and Hayden Panettiere as Haylei. The case was featured on Dateline television programs, Evil Stepmothers, Deadly Wives, and Snapped. This case also became the basis of True Crime novel, "Marked for Death," Avon Books, 2005 by Brian J. Karem.
