W. Stephen Thayer III (Walter Stephen Thayer III) was the New Hampshire Supreme Court Judge from 1986 to 2000.
He was the US Attorney for the District of New Hampshire from 1981 to 1984. He was a member of the Republican Party and participated in several conservative organizations.
In 2000 he resigned from the Supreme Court of New Hampshire amid controversy involving claims that he sought to influence the court's decision on his fiercely disputed divorce from his wife Judith, former chair of the New Hampshire State Education Council.
In 2003, he was appointed by the Bush administration to participate in efforts to build a more comprehensive screening process for aircraft passengers.
